Things to Do in Kampot: The Alternatives Guide
Kampot has more going on than most visitors ever discover. Here's where to look.

Sunset and eco-tours on the Kampot River, from classic firefly cruises to mangrove and community boat trips.
The Kampot River runs through the middle of town, and getting out on it is one of the easiest good decisions you can make here. The classic option is a sunset cruise: head upriver as the sun drops behind Bokor Mountain, watch the longtail fishing boats heading home, and drift back in the dark. A drink comes with the ticket. If you’re lucky, there are fireflies on the way back.
River cruises used to be a big deal in Kampot. Before COVID, the riverfront filled with dozens of boats every evening for the famous sunset run upriver. The industry was hit hard when tourism stopped, and many operators never came back. Things are slowly returning, with fewer boats and different operators, but the river is the same.
The other option is a daytime eco-cruise: downriver to the Trapeang Sangkae Community, into the mangrove channels, with fish and birds visible along the way and lunch on board.
Both are easy to arrange and work well for families or groups.

So, you don't need a license for smaller motorbikes. However, it's almost certain your medical insurance will see it differently!
